Well, I’m home.

July 8, 2007 at 3:58 pm | Posted in Blah Blah Blah, General Knitting | 4 Comments

What a trip it was. I’m home early, and I’ll tell you why!

On Friday, there was a storm, and I think it was Lightning strikes that made the fire. Anyway, the Mountains behind the town that we have a little vacation house thing in had some wildfires on them.

A lot of smoke. As the day went on you could start to see more and more smoke, and than you could see the flames. At night, it looked really scary. We took a little walk to see the fire that night:

Yup, that was right behind the town. The next morning we woke up and things didn’t look too bad. It was very smokey, but other than that, you couldn’t really see anything. So we took a little trip to Lone Pine, which is only about 15 or 16 miles away from the town our House was in (and where the fire was). By the time we got ready to go back home, this highway patrolman blocked off the Highway only a few cars in front of us, and told us we couldn’t get back home. So, Me, my mom, and my 2 cousins where stuck in Lone Pine. Well, as it turned out, They where having Voluntary evacuations of the West side of town (our house was on the east side.) and then, it was mandatory evacuations on the west side and voluntary on the East. So, the family that had made it too the house packed up all our stuff and came to pick us up, and we went home.

The bright side of this crazy day, look who we met at the park while waiting for our family to pick us up:

3 Llamas named Otis, Haydn, and Osama Bin Llama. They where very large, and very cute. We hung out with them for a little while.

So besides the whole wildfire, wondering if our little house is still there, and having to leave early, I had a great time on my Fourth of July. It was flippin’ hot like it always is in the summer, and I had a really fun time hanging out with my family. Good Times. Keep your fingers crossed that the Little town of Independence makes it  the fire!

Knit-wise, I knit on some socks up there. I almost have a finished pair, I’ll show you when I finish them. I also taught my Aunt to make her vary first pair of socks, and she’s doing so well! Yay Barb!

Sign-ups are still open for the Scarf Swap, you have until Wednesday, the 11th to email me and let me know you’re interested! I already have 10 people signed up to swap scarves!

Scarf Swap?

July 3, 2007 at 1:32 am | Posted in General Knitting | 4 Comments

I saw somewhere in Blogland a swap for Scarves. I never really thought about swapping scarves, but I can see it being a lot easier to swap scarves than say, socks, because of the whole foot size thing. This idea sounded like fun to me, and I can’t find any swaps to join, so why not start one myself? If you want to join, shoot me over an email (doozer2004 AT sbcglobal DOT net) and give me your info, than at the end of the sign-up period, I’ll email you back with your partner. Cool? Ok, now we need some rules.

1. Sign Ups begin Today, July 2 (Note, I won’t be here to check on submissions, I’m leaving for vacation, remember? So if I don’t reply to you if you want to join, just know I’m not ignoring you, I’ll get back to you as soon as I’m home).

2. Sign Ups end Next Wednesday, the 11th of July. That gives you about 10 days to sign up.

3. To Sign Up, email me with Your Name, and the link to your blog (if you have one). After sign ups end, I’ll email you with the Email Address and name of your swap partner, and you can exchange info for mailing and stuff like that. Be sure to put something like “Scarf Swap) in the subject line of your Email so I know it’s now spam 🙂

4. Once I email you back letting you know That I received your submission, you’ll be required to post the Scarf Swap Questionairre on your blog (or email your partner directly, whichever you prefer) so your partner can learn a little more about your likes/dislikes.

5. I’m not going to impose a minumum amount of money you have to spend or anything, my only thing is (as a yarn snob) I think the yarn should have some standard of quality. No gnarly acrylic or anything like that. Stash yarn is totally fine for this swap, but if you want to go out and spend on new yarn for it, go right ahead. You’re also not obligated to add anything else to the package besides the scarf, unless you want to spoil your partner, by all means!

6. I’m not sure of how long the deadline should be. I think it depends on the knitter, but I don’t want one swapper stuck waiting months for their partner to finish their scarf, so I’ll say you should have them sent off so your partner recieves in by then end of August? That gives a nice time period to knit it, although if you finish early, by all means, send it off a soon as possible.

7. You choose the pattern and yarn yourself, but make sure it somewhat matches your partners likes and dislikes.

Okay, I think that’s it. Now, for the Questionairre you need to fill out once I give you your partner:

1. Do you have any allergies your partner should know about (no wool, etc.)?
2. What are your favorite colors (Bright, subdued, girly colors, earth tones, etc.)?
3. How long do you prefer your scarves to hang? Do you have a preference?
4. Do you have a problem with any type of yarn? Does Novelty yarn make you cringe? Do you prefer something more classic?

I think that’s about all I can think off. Even if only one person signs up, I’ll swap with them, but It would be cool to get this thing really going!

FO: Molly’s Headband

July 2, 2007 at 4:15 pm | Posted in Finished Projects, General Knitting | 3 Comments

Last night, while crusing through Blogland, I spotted Rilana’s Headband, and I knew I had to make one.

Molly's Headband

Pattern: Molly’s Headband (PDF, you have to scroll down a bit to find the pattern)
Yarn: Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Malibu Blue (Just a little bit, not even half a skein)
Needles: US Size 6

Molly's Headband (1)

I love this headband! I was a little skeptical while knitting it, but It turned out awesome. It was super fun to knit, just a little bit of lace, very easy. I’ll definatly be making another. My only problem is that the i-cord ties are a bit too long. Instead of 12 inches, on my next one I might shorten them to about 6.

Now, I’m going to go Pack and do some laundry for my little trip for the Fourth of July, and then go find some yarn in my stash to make another headband.

Stuff I like…

I went to the mall today for some shopping for Summer clothes (Shorts, bathingsuit, tank tops) and I had quite a few good finds!

The other day I revealed my Love for Swallows and Sparrows, especially in Jewelry. Well I found:

mall (3)
This necklace! Yay! And then I found these:

mall
Well, I just had to get them too. Like I said, I have a weakness.

Besides little birdies, I have a thing for:
handsanitizer

Hand Sanitizer. Yep, I have a bottle of Purel with me in my purse pretty much everywhere I go. I’ve turned into somewhat of a germaphobe. So, to replace the bottle in my purse that smells like alcohol, I went to Bath and Body works and bought the Fancy kind. Tropical Passionfruit. This makes me very happy.

Another thing I have a thing for:
mall (2)

Cheesy Chick-lit books. They are easy and light reading, I don’t have to think too hard. I may not be learning much, but I don’t care. I read some of the Shopaholic series, they just make me happy. Plus, this one was about knitting. Sold!

Speaking of knitting… Hrmm… It would seem I don’t have much to show you. I’ve been working on some footies, but that’s about it.

I’ll be leaving on Tuesday for our annual Familyreunion/Fourth of July celebration. Yay! I can’t wait. So I’ll be gone from Tuesday until Sunday. I’ll try to sneak in a post tomorrow before I leave.

Darn you, Etsy!!

I’ve been hanging around Etsy.com today, I found these little beauties:

This adorable ring:

These Earrings:

And last but not least:

Oy, I want that necklace so much, it hurts. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve got a thing for Birds. Sparrows and Swallows in perticular. I don’t know why, I just think they are adorable. I already have this necklace. If I ever got a tattoo, that’s what I would get.

So, I’ll be doing some sewing tomorrow for my shop to scrape some money into my PayPal for some Sparrows. Night Everyone!

FO: Brian’s Socks

DSC08286

Yarn: Schachenmayr nomotta  Regia 6-ply / 6-fädig (Something like that.)
Needles: I think they where size 2 dpns, they might have been 3s. I didn’t check.
Pattern: Basic Top-Down. 64 sts, footie-length.

Brian was very excited to get socks for his birthday. He’s been bugging me to make him some for a while, and now he has them. I put off knitting the second one until yesterday, and had to knit practically the whole sock in one day to have them done for Today.

A while back I won a contest over at Skeins Her Way, and won Ali’s pattern that she wrote for Blue Sky Alpacas for the Fitted Tank:

DSC08287

So I went to Michales and bought enough Cotton Ease in “Taupe” to make it. I cranked out the front in about 2 days. Obviously, I added a v-neck to it, because I think that will be more flattering, on me at least, than the way the pattern was written. I hope to have it done to wear for our 4th of July trip, I have, what, a week? I’ll have it done by then.

PS: I cannot spell. The WordPress spell check isn’t working for me, so If I spell stuff wrong, I’m sorry.

One down:

Brian Sock

One to go. These are the socks I’m knitting for my sister’s Boyfriend. His birthday is on Tuesday, I better get to work.

I’ve also been spinning a bit lately. Here’s my most recent:
Silkmerino yarn

It’s 50%Merino 50%Silk. It was a pain in the butt to spin because of the silk, but it came out very shiny and soft.
Silkmerino yarn (1)

I ended up with about 90 yards. Maybe this will be a hat? Who knows.

The Interview Meme

June 22, 2007 at 5:27 am | Posted in General Knitting | 4 Comments

I asked my good blog buddy Ruth for this one:

1. What is your most favorite craft/activity? Knitting, Easy. Next question.

2. What do you want to be when you grow up/get out of school? I really don’t know. I know I want to be a Mommy, but maybe a teacher? I’m working on that one.

3. Morning person or night person? Defiantly Morning. I like to sleep in sometimes, but I really like to get up and get going. I accomplish a ton and then my sister gets up around 11, it just feels good to me, to get up early.

4. What are some things you look for in the opposite gender? Well, I’m defiantly drawn to Guys with a sense of Humor (I once dreamt that I was dating Will Ferrell. And in another dream, it was Stephen Colbert). But I think that when I meet “the one” he will be Responcible, Has a ton of Common Sense, someone who supports me, Intelligent, and someone who shares my beliefs.

5. What was the most embarrassing or stupidest thing you’ve ever done? Hrmm… It must have not been to bad, because I can’t think of a doozy. I trip and fall a lot, but I don’t seem to get embaressed easily. I’ll be in the car and dancing to some song on the Radio and someone will remind me that people can see me. I mean, who cares? That’s what I always say, I’ll probably never see these people again.

Wait, I thought of one. One Christmas when I was little, we were all at my Aunt and Uncle’s house waiting for my other Uncle to show up so we could start opening presents. Then someone in a Truck like my Uncle’s drove up and me and my cousin went running outside saying “Uncle Dave!”. Well, it wasn’t Uncle Dave, it was the neighbor. Not so embarrasing, but, like I said, I can’t think of a good one.

Now, here are the directions for the Interview Meme, if you want to play;
1. Leave a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. Beware, I’m not shy of asking personal questions! Please make sure I have your email address.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

And that’s all I’ve got. I have some random things to post about, maybe tomorrow. I’m sleepy. Night!

I’m Invited!!

June 20, 2007 at 8:09 pm | Posted in Blah Blah Blah, General Knitting | 8 Comments

I got my invitation to join the Beta version of Ravelry yesterday! Yay! It’s so awesome. If you don’t know what Ravelry is (where have you been?), go check it out. Seriously. And sign up, you’ll be glad you did! Any of you out there on Ravelry wanna be my friend? Look me up, my username is KaityBeth.

I’m entering a contest from Lotus Knits, and I have to post either my first knitted thing or my next project I’ll be working on. Seeing as I don’t have a picture of my first knitted thing (I don’t even remember what It was), we’ll go with what’s coming up next:

Amy's hat

I finally got the yarn to start that Fair Isle hat for my sister. I would have already cast on for it, but I can’t find those darn needles…

And I went shopping with my cousin yesterday at a Thrift store. I was looking for a sweater to recycle the yarn from (That didn’t turn out so well…) but I found a bag of yarn for $4.95. I couldn’t unzip the bag to feel it or anything, but I bought it anyway. Well, I got it home and it revealed this:

thrift store wool

11 skeins of something. I had no idea what it was. It kind of felt like wool, but there was no label or anything. Just 11 skeins for something (I threw that DPN on top of the pile for size reference)

Than I thought about trying to dye it, so see if It was wool or something:

thrift store wool (1)

Well, it took the Kool-aid like a pro:

thrift store wool (4)

Well people, I’ve got wool on my hands. I measured out about 280 yards in a skein, times 11, thats 3080 yards. Wow. All that for $4.95? Thank you thrift store!

Thrift Store Wool

Now. What the heck am I gonna do with this? It’s kind of a sport weight. I’d like to make a Thermal from Knitty, but that would take me a lifetime! Hmm, I dunno.

Socks that might rock…

June 16, 2007 at 11:19 pm | Posted in Blah Blah Blah, General Knitting | 7 Comments

Like the new look? I thought it was time for a change. Refreshing, right? (For those of you reading on Bloglines, you can’t tell, but my blog looks different.)

Now, I have a problem.

I’m not a fan of the way the colors are swirling/pooling. The stripes are just a bit too thick… What do I do? Do I keep going? Do I Find a new pattern to try out? Do I save the yarn for when I feel inspired? Do I quit worrying about it?

And now, 7 random Things about me. I must be the very last person to do this one, I got tagged a while back, I don’t remember by who, though…

1. I cut my hair and dye it in hopes of coming up with the best haircut that is easy to do everyday, and when I get it cut, I swear I’ll try to style it everyday, but a couple of weeks later I just end up putting it in a ponytail. It’s a vicious Circle. I need Nick Arrojo.

2. I was a Crocheter before I was a knitter. I learned to crochet one Christmas, and by the time my birthday rolled around, I told my Grandma I wanted to learn to knit, and it’s been knitting ever since.

3. While learning to knit, I remember telling my mom that it was way to hard when I got frustrated, and I told her I didn’t want to knit and I’d just stick to Crocheting. Ha.

4. Most of my musical preferences come from my parents. Or, more accuratly, my dad. The B-52’s, Devo, The Eagles, The Doors, Queen, Creedence Clearwater Revival, pretty much all his doing.

5. Even though both me and my mom knit like crazy, my little sister really has no interest in it, but this week her boyfriend was at scout camp and she needed something to do, so I told her I’d show her how to knit a hat for him, so she made her first real knitted thing! I’m so proud. I’ll try to get a picture of it. It turned out really well!

6. The highlight of my whole entire summer is always the Fourth of July. Stuck in a little tiny house with my whole family, in the middle of nowhere where it is about 110 degrees outside. It’s awesome! Thank God for Independence (It’s a town). I love the time I get to spend with my cousins and everyone.

7. Let’s see. Okay, this one is actually more of a story. Before everyone goes to bed at my house, you have to make sure that there are no glasses of water or anything that the cats can knock over in the middle of the night and make a mess. So last night, my sister and I where the lasts ones up, and my sister was at the sink emptying cups, and she tryed to pour out a glass of milk, but it had been sitting around and it just stuck the the bottom. So she says “Hay Kaity, come over here!” So I did, and she was going to pretend to throw the milk in my face to scare me, but she thought that it wouldn’t come out. Well, It did, and she accidentally threw old milk in my face. And in my hair, and on my shirt, and down my arms. Yeah, nasty. I haven’t been that grossed out and laughed so hard in who knows how long. It was gross. And pretty funny.
